Miguel Sousa Ferro

He holds a PhD degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon (2014) in the field of Competition Law (Thesis: “Defining the relevant market: theory and practice”; Advisor: Professor Eduardo Paz Ferreira), a Masters degree in European Studies – Law, at the College of Europe, Bruges (2005-2006) and a Diploma in International Nuclear Law, with honors, awarded by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and the University of Montpellier, France (2005). He holds an undergraduate degree in Law, with specialization in International and Community Law, from Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon (2005). Between 2010 and 2013, he served as a lecturer and a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon with a main focus on Economic and Monetary Union, International Economy, Introduction to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics). He was also the guest lecturer at the National University of Timor-Leste, under a cooperation agreement with the Foundation of Portuguese Universities (Criminal Law and Family Law. 2011), researcher at the International Law Institute and the Centre for Global Governance Studies of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2009), guest lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon (Economic and Competition Law, under Professor Luís Morais. 2008- 09). He was also a Trainee Assistant at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon (European Union Law, under Professor Eduardo Paz Ferreira, 2008). Professionally, he was the legal adviser at the Independent Commission for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, involved in conducting an overall codification and legal study of the nuclear sector in Portugal and preparing a reform package (2007-2010). He is the co-editor of International Journal of Nuclear Law International Nuclear Law Association and his main publications include - European Nuclear Law, 2012; A definição de mercados relevantes no direito europeu e português da concorrência: teoria e prática [Relevant market definition in EU and Portuguese competition law: theory and practice], 2014; Novo regime das práticas restritivas do comércio: Decreto-Lei n.º 166/2013 [The new regime of practices in restriction of trade: Decree-Law no. 166/2013], AAFDL, Lisboa, 2014. His research interests primarily consist of - Competition Law, EU Competition Law, Antitrust (Law), Antitrust, International Trade Law, Nuclear Laws. At CIDEEFF, he is a member of the research group on Market Failures in a Globalized Economy: Institutional Approaches.
