Prof. Doutor Gustavo Lopes Courinha

In 2003, he obtained a master’s degree after having graduated, in 1999, in law from Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon. At present he is a Junior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon, where he has taught since 2002, including the following courses: International Economic Law, Financial and Tax, Law of Obligations and (Public) Financial Law. He also teaches Community Tax Law in the Postgraduate Course at the Catholic University of Portugal. He has also worked as a lawyer at the law firm Raposo Subtil, Matos Esteves & Associados, between 1999-2004 and the law firm Caetano de Freitas & Associados, from 2004-2006. His publications include – Interpretação e Aplicação das Convenções de Dupla Tributação (Portuguese report) in Fiscalidad y globalización, Aranzadi, Navarra (2012); Deemed Residence in Portugal: the case of Households in light of Art. 4 (1) of the OECD MC in Tax Treaty Case Law around the Globe, Ed. Linde Vërlag, Wien, 2011; Portugal – Software Taxation, Tax Treaties and the OECD Model, in Tax Notes International, (Volume 62, Number 7 – 2011). His main area of expertise lies with tax law. He joined the research group on Tax Governance: International Standards, Patriotisms and Exiles and on Globalization, Economic Integration and Development: European and Lusophone Perspectives.
